Well, from what I hear, this guy did Brittany Spears "Hit Me Baby One More Time" in the first week of competition -- and also from what I hear, it was pretty bad! If we're trying to make people laugh, sure, but if we're shooting to win 500 bucks... not so much. However, this week's version of "Under The Bridge" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers was pretty decent. The very beginning he tripped on the rhythm and was singing behind the beat, but when the drum kicked in he was sailing. It was good overall, and a welcome change from Brittany!

I am sort of upset that you feel that you can judge a preformance that you weren't even there to witness. I thought his performance of Brittany Spears was great, he didn't do it in a way to mock the contest or get a laugh. I think it was the best overall performance of the night. But the judges only seemed to be judging contestants on vocal performance which is not how they said the judging would be done. If they took into consideration actual performance I believe he should have placed very high. He did an excelent job on the song he picked.
ReplyDeleteI don't speak for the other judges, but I have a sheet in front of me with categories on it. I give each contestant the rating I feel - based on my experience in the perfoance field - that they deserve. Vocal Ability is only one category. My scores are all listed here under each contestent, and my wors here on the Brittany song were that "I heard" because, well, I wasn't there and I only know what I was told. These marks are for "Under The Bridge". I did not judge the Brittany song. But this is a competition where the winner is being touted as the next Syracuse "singing sensation" so I expect that the contestants wshould be consistant with that.
